The origin of paper cups can be traced back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At that time, with the advancement of the Industrial Revolution, the demand for convenient and hygienic packaging increased significantly. Traditional ceramic and glass containers, while durable, were heavy and fragile, making them unsuitable for carrying around. Metal containers, while lightweight, were expensive and had limitations in certain food packaging applications. It was against this backdrop that paper cups came into being.

Early paper cups had relatively simple designs, mainly made of cardboard, and were used to hold cold drinks. With continuous technological advancements, the materials and manufacturing processes of paper cups have been significantly improved. Modern paper cups typically use a multi-layered cardboard composite structure with an inner waterproof membrane to prevent leakage. This design not only improves the durability of paper cups but also allows them to hold hot drinks such as coffee and tea.
